Gene & Georgetti Donates $8,000 to Hephzibah

“How sweet it is!” said Mary Anne Brown, executive director of Hephzibah Children’s Association, Oak Park, IL. In support of National Adoption Month in November, the legendary steakhouse raised $8,000 for Hephzibah through dessert sales, donations from generous guests, and a total match from the Durpetti Foundation. That’s a lot of cannolis!

“Because of Gene & Georgetti’s gift we will be able to help more children and families,” Brown said. “Thanks for making Giving Tuesday extra sweet!”

Gene & Georgetti ‘s donation to Hephzibah occurred on December 2, 2014, also known as Giving Tuesday. This day is designated globally as an occasion to support charitable causes.

Since opening in 1941, Gene & Georgetti , at 500 N. Franklin, Chicago, has been family owned and operated. Co-founder Gene Michelotti’s daughter Marion Durpetti and her husband Tony Durpetti purchased the restaurant in 1990 after the passing of her father. Marion’s cousin Richard Ciota serves as general manager while their daughter Michelle Durpetti runs marketing and events.

Michelle Durpetti volunteered at Hephzibah’s group homes while attending high school — and memories of the children stuck with her. Michelle’s experience prompted the family to reach out to Hephzibah in support of its vital services for children.
