The 20th Annual Hoof It for Hephzibah is a Winner! #howihoofit

The Hephzibah Western Auxiliary held their 20th Annual Hoof It for Hephzibah 5K Run/Walk this past Memorial Day Weekend. As the result of Covid-19 and the need for social distancing, the Auxiliary quickly shifted to a virtual Hoof It. This switch gave the participants the opportunity to Hoof It anyway they chose to for the entire Memorial Day weekend many posted using the hashtag #howihoofit.

The Western Auxiliary members reached out to friends and family outside of the Chicago land area to support this Glen Ellyn Memorial Day tradition which raised $16,265 to support Hephzibah’s mission.

howihoofit “It was nice to see posts from all over: Glen Ellyn, Oak Park, Michigan, Wisconsin and even South Carolina!,” said Laura McLaughlin, the Western Auxiliary President. “We had registrants from as far as NY, Florida, NJ and Georgia! The virtual option allowed many to support Hephzibah from outside the area.”

“People Hoof’d It in many ways,” Laura said. “Families ran together in the woods, on the beach, in their neighborhoods… many biked, some played basketball, some walked. Some people just relaxed in their Hoof it shirts toasting to 20 years of Hoof it!”

313 participants participated and posted on social media. Even the Hephzibah home, kids and staff participated. “

“There was a lot of outdoor time, swimming, tag, running laps, bike-riding, dance parties and much more. The kids had a great time hoofing around all weekend!,” said Debbie Pontrelli, Hephzibah’s Assistant Director of Group Homes.

Thanks to everyone who donated and participated from all over the country, you all helped to make the 2020 Hoof It for Hephzibah a huge success. A special big thank you to the Western Auxiliary for their energy, resilience and commitment to Hephzibah, especially in these unusual times.
