On April 11th – 13th the community came together once again to support Hephzibah by donating, volunteering and shopping at the 2024 Spring Kids Resale Event. The Kids Resale Event was held at its home for the last seven years, St. John Lutheran Church in Forest Park. Our spring resale event raised over $24,000 for Hephzibah’s After School Care and Summer Camp Program!
This program offers life-changing support to working families in the form of nurturing and enriching care for elementary-aged children onsite at each of Oak Park’s elementary schools. The program also offers parents a sliding-scale payment plan making it affordable and accessible and is offered during after-school times, summer months, and school holidays.
Each spring and fall thousands of childrens, infant and maternity items are donated in the week leading up to each event. These items are carefully sorted and organized by a team of volunteers made up of local community members. These volunteers include a team of dedicated managers, who plan and make sure each event runs like clockwork ensuring a smooth experience for everyone.
This spring, even after hundreds of happy shoppers headed home with bags full of affordable clothes for their children there were still items remaining. Local partner agencies were invited to gather items that they could use to benefit their clients. Members of the Oak Park River Forest High School football team then helped load up a truck with the remaining donated items that went to a local donation center, guaranteeing that all items made it to a home, making it a 100% sustainable event.
We are so grateful for the continued support from our community that endlessly give their time and resources to make sure that we can continue to offer vital programming to children and families we serve for many years to come.
