Made by Hand for Hephzibah

Jean Powell

Jean Powell’s granddaughter Sophia Powell was delighted by desserts served at the tea.

Jean Powell doesn’t like to be idle. As a new member of Hephzibah’s Oak Park Auxiliary Board, she has quickly applied her talents for knitting and sewing to benefit Hephzibah’s kids.

Powell hosted an afternoon tea at her home on November 9 to showcase and sell a variety of her hand-made items. Unique hand-knitted children’s sweaters, hats, and socks were on display along with colorful ladies’ scarves and headbands, tote bags and pot holders. Proceeds from Powell’s All Things Handmade boutique totaled $450.

As word of her handiwork spread around Hephzibah, Powell was asked to hem and alter clothes for children in the group home. She readily accepted the job.
