Step Into the Spotlight: Foster Today

May 28, 2026

At this very moment there are children needing foster care, feeling uncertain about their next meal, or where they’re sleeping tonight, without anyone to turn to. Children removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect can feel invisible, unheard, and unable to process what’s happening or why. Foster parents can change that; by taking center stage in their life, you give them a voice, a place to heal and be heard.

Who do we serve?

We serve children across every demographic, infants to teens, connecting kids in need with welcoming homes. Welcoming a child into your home can be a lesson in cultural and familial differences; from braiding hair to skincare, festive traditions to favorite foods, Hephzibah has trained staff eager to help you create the best environment possible for a child’s healing and happiness. You do not have to live in Oak Park – families within a 25-mile radius of Hephzibah can foster.

Every year we host a foster parent appreciation dinner for Hephzibah foster parents at a local restaurant, with childcare included! It’s an opportunity for our foster parents to get together over a meal, swap stories, and celebrate the ups and downs. Plus, everyone leaves with a raffle item including zoo trips, movie nights, and more! We wanted to pass on this message to you from them:

This is just one of our many Foster Care supports. Hephzibah has a whole team of staff and services supporting foster families every step of the way, made possible by an incredible community of donors and supporters:

  • 24-hour on-call emergency support

  • Ongoing monthly foster parent trainings with childcare and dinner
  • Clinical advocacy with our licensed clinical care program
  • Child & family therapy in-home or in-office
  • Therapeutic mentorship up to 4 hours a week
  • Annual summer camp for separated foster siblings

What can you do?

Here are three small steps you can take right now to make a difference for a foster child or family today:

  • If you or someone you know has even the slightest interest in fostering, we encourage you to reach out or forward to a friend; just asking questions is a powerful place to start. Call us at 708.549.7140 or email Destiny at dwhite@hephzibahhome.org.
  • We offer a whole suite of both crisis and preventative supports to foster parents and children. A donation to Hephzibah bolsters our support structures while providing opportunities for our hard-working foster parents to let loose every once in a while and enjoy community!
  • Attend one of our next in-person or zoom info sessions when available! Follow us on social media or subscribe to our newsletter for all the latest news on upcoming sessions.
