Give Kids a Head Start

three kids_optDid you know that children who attend high-quality preschool not only enter kindergarten better prepared socially and academically – they’re also less likely to repeat a grade and more likely to graduate from high school, according to the National Association of Early Childhood Education. The award-winning Hephzibah Head Start preschool, located at 946 North Boulevard near downtown Oak Park, is now accepting applications for children three to five years of age.

Hephzibah’s program recently received the Gold Circle of Quality rating by ExceleRate Illinois, a state-wide quality rating and improvement system designed to encourage continuous quality improvement and establish standards for helping children develop intellectually, physically, socially, and emotionally. Programs that meet or go beyond the highest quality standards in three areas: learning environment and teaching quality, administrative standards, and staff training and education receive the highest Gold Circle rating.

There is no charge to families that are accepted into Hephzibah’s Head Start program. Eligibility is determined by household income level and other factors. For details, please call Evangeline Leggin at 708-649-7101, or email eleggin@hephzibahhome.org. One way to help us spread the word about Hephzibah’s preschool program is to pass the information to family and friends, or post a copy of our flyer at your church or business. We’re currently seeking volunteers, who can commit at least one morning per week during the school year, to assist our youngest students as they learn and play in an engaging, nurturing environment. Applicants interested in helping with Hephzibah Head Start preschool should contact Hannah Weigel, volunteer manager at hweigel@hephzibahhome.org.
